9 July – 17 September 2016, open daily 10.00 – 17.00 except Fridays 10.30 – 17.00
This year’s summer showcase will uncover exciting new artists, projects and initiatives that have helped make 2016 Birmingham’s Year of Arts and Young People.
Explore sculptural models inspired by the Birmingham Big Art Project created by children from Birmingham schools. See the top entries from our first online Inspire 16 youth arts competition as we celebrate the diversity, creativity and ideas of local young artists. Young people also present “Yesterday’s Dreams”, a personal and local heritage project developed with Friction Arts. Discover ‘The Big Read’, Wild in Art’s citywide call to support the arts and literacy through uniquely designed book benches. Arts Award 10 shows us great examples and stories of Arts Council England’s dedicated qualifications for children and young people both in and out of education.
The summer showcase is also about taking part. We have a dedicated programme of fun, creative and entertaining activities for kids and families and young people too. Including great arts master classes, performances and spoken word events that will get you both thinking and doing. For our younger audiences and families there will be plenty of playing, making and storytelling, our regular Saturday ‘Crafty Kids’ session will move into the gallery for some summer fun.
Free exhibition 9 July – 17 September 2016. In the Gas Hall at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
