Introducing Juliet and Dave
The author Juliet Clare Bell and illustrator Dave Gray will be holding special workshops in a number of Big Read venues throughout the summer. Keep an eye on the website for details. In the meantime, here’s more about the talented duo behind The Unstoppable Maggie McGee book.
Dave studied as a graphic designer and won a BBC/BAFTA award for design before going on to produce hundreds of creative projects for the likes of the BBC, Channel 4, CITV, Oxford University and The Prince’s Trust.
He spent a large part of his early career developing and delivering entertaining/educational media projects with hard to reach young people before setting up as a freelance illustrator and designer.
After winning SCBWI’s Undiscovered Voices 2014 for children’s illustration, Dave decided to focus more on illustrating children’s books and is currently working on some exciting picture book ideas.
Juliet Clare Bell is the author of Don’t Panic, Annika! (as seen on CBeebies; illustrated by Jennifer E Morris), The Kite Princess (endorsed by Amnesty International, UK; illustrated by Laura Kate Chapman, narrated by Oscar-nominated Imelda Staunton) and Pirate Picnic (illustrated by Mariella Minelli).
Her most recent book, Two Brothers and a Chocolate Factory: The Remarkable Story of Richard and George Cadbury, came out in March, 2016, is a true story picture book for 7-9 year-olds. It has also inspired Bournville Junior’s School BookBench!
