Following the unprecedented success of The Big Hoot and The Little Hoot education programme, we simply had to fill the void left by the hundreds of decorated owl and owlet sculptures, which brought smiles to everyone who flocked to Birmingham city centre and its districts throughout summer 2015.
The same delivery team once again brought an unmissable creative education event to Birmingham and the West Midlands in the 2015/16 academic year.
The Big Read featured Wild in Art’s iconic BookBench sculpture. It provided schools and community groups throughout the West Midlands with the opportunity to be involved in a unique project that not only celebrated the region’s creativity, but also stimulated an interest in reading and writing.
In summer 2016, displays of decorated BookBenches were showcased inside cultural hubs, leisure complexes and shopping centres across the region. They provided colourful stimulus and innovative backdrops to live events and workshops linked to literacy development.
After the display the BookBenches were returned to the schools and community groups that decorated them, becoming lasting features of libraries, book corners and outside learning environments.
